My research has been published in a variety of international journals and I have been a consultant to several institutions and central banks around the world.  I have also been a visiting lecturer at universities in Europe and North America, Australia, and New Zealand. My research has been funded by domestic and international agencies. In 1999 I was Erskine Fellow at the University of Canterbury, New Zealand and in 2009 I was William Evans Fellow at the University of Otago, New Zealand. I was WLU's University Research Professor in 2000-2001, and Director of the Viessmann European Research Centre from 2005 to 2014.  In January 2008 I was named to the C.D. Howe Institute's Monetary Policy Council. I am also a Research Fellow at the C.D. Howe. In 2008-9 I was chairholder of the Bundesbank Foundation of International Monetary Economics at the Freie Universitat, Berlin. In December 2008 I became a Senior Fellow at the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI). In September 2009 I was appointed to two three year terms as a member of the Czech National Bank's Research Advisory Committee. In 2015 I was a National Fellow at the Hoover Institution, Stanford University.
